CLEVELAND, Ohio Tony Curcillo, an Elyria native who was Woody Hayes’ first starting quarterback at Ohio State died Tuesday near his home in Murrieta, California. He was 89.
Curcillo played alongside 1950 Heisman Trophy winner Vic Janowicz at Elyria High and at OSU, where he participated in the infamous Snow Bowl game against Michigan. Over two seasons, he was 76-of-171 passing for 1,249 yards and eight touchdowns. He ran 139 times for 384 yards and five TDs.
