Mumbai: MMRDA approves Rs 12,969 crore budget for financial 2021-22 | Mumbai News

(File photo) MUMBAI: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved an outlay of Rs 12,969 crore, of which around 35 per cent has been allocated for various Metro projects , in the budget estimates prepared for the financial year 2021-22. The budget estimate for 2020-21 was 15,819 crore but it was revised to Rs 9,851 crore as per actual expenditure. MMRDA spokesperson said, “The budget was approved by MMRDA meeting under the chairpmanship of state urban development minister Eknath Shinde today. The budget makes special provisions for infrastructure projects like public transport and Metro railway. This will help reduce the traffic congestion in Mumbai and ensure that Mumbaikars have a comfortable and shorter commute.1”

Massive drug haul in Mumbai: Ganja worth Rs 3 5 crore seized from tempo

Two persons were nabbed along with the ganja at around 5 pm on Friday (Representative Image).   |  Photo Credit: iStock Images Key Highlights The contraband was brought to the city from Odisha Mumbai: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) seized 1,800 kilograms of ganja from a tempo near Vikhroli on the Eastern Express Highway on Friday. The contraband seized by the agency is worth Rs 3.5 crore. The cops nabbed the accused after laying a trap for them.  Two persons were nabbed along with the ganja at around 5 pm on Friday. Allegedly, the accused brought the contraband from Odisha. The main supplier was identified as Sandeep Satpute. Satpute was a resident of Louis Wadi, Thane.

The breakthrough was made by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Police s Crime Branch-CID, supervised by Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, said Milind Bharambe, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime). We were tracking this case for weeks. There was also surveillance, technical intelligence and following the drug peddlers. The consignment was seized from a truck on the Eastern Express Highway and two persons have been arrestedin connection with the case, Bharambe told mediapersons.

Watch: Fire breaks out at Bhandup in textile godown

Bhandup on Thursday evening in a textile godown at Anjani Kumar Industrial Estate near Eastern Express Highway. The fire, which was reported around 8:38 pm in Sonapur area, has resulted in thick plumes of smoke in the surrounding regions. According to preliminary information, eight fire tenders, four water tankers and one rescue vehicle have been rushed to the spot. The traffic police are also assisting the fire brigade personnel in dousing the blaze. No injuries have been reported in the mishap. Reportedly, the area is prone to fire incidents and this is not the first time that such a blaze has flared up in the region.
