Media release: J & D Pierce purchase Konecranes plant in long-term manufacturing deal
STRUCTURAL steelwork contractor, J & D Pierce, has secured an agreement with Finnish firm, Konecranes, to purchase its East Kilbride-based operation.
Managing director, Derek Pierce, negotiated the deal, which will see 100 jobs created by the end of 2021.
In August last year, 2020, the firm announced that they needed to “fix the lack of profitability” at the College Milton site and were looking to “protect [the company’s] long-term future”.
J & D Pierce has purchased the 300,000 square foot plant along with 14 acres of yard space.
Recruitment will soon take place for both manufacturing and office staff.

Riding high with one album, Fragmentality, under her belt, some collaborations with fellow musicians on the cards and a teaching position at the University of the West of Scotland, life changed dramatically when the singer-songwriter discovered she was pregnant. “I had my son, and that was amazing, and then my daughter, and nothing had prepared me for this experience,” she acknowledges. “Motherhood is incredible, but you no longer have a single second to waste.” Becci, who is originally from Cardonald, is married to Loki, the rapper, author and activist Darren McGarvey, and the couple have two children – Daniel, four, and two-year-old Lily.
