“Perceptions,” by Gerry Warner
Op-Ed Commentary
Appearing below is a letter I’ve written to Dr. Bonnie Henry. I wrote the letter because I believe our community and the communities surrounding us are being denied critical information about the COVID-19 pandemic.
I’ll explain why I wrote the letter after you’ve had the opportunity to read it.
Dr. Bonnie Henry
Dear Dr. Henry:
On behalf of the people of Cranbrook, B.C., I’m writing to find out the number of COVID -19 deaths that have occurred at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, which treats patients in Cranbrook, Kimberley and other East Kootenay communities.

SAR assist with medical emergency
On March 2, Cranbrook Search and Rescue (SAR) assisted BC Ambulance and Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services with a person who suffered a serious leg injury.
The location, although not far from Cranbrook, was difficult to access. The patient was stabilized by first responders but removal and transport from the area presented some challenges. SAR was able to engage Bighorn Helicopters (pictured), which flew in with two SAR members. Team members also attended by ground.
The helicopter was able to land close by and the team loaded the patient. He was flown to a safe accessible location and transferred to BC Ambulance. And subsequently transported to East Kootenay Regional Hospital, Cranbrook SAR reported on social media.

Louis Charles Hascarl
October 21, 1932 – February 4, 2021
With great sadness we announce the passing of Louis Charles Hascarl. He passed away peacefully February 4
th with family by his side.
Born and raised in Nakusp, B.C., Lou moved his family to Canal Flats, B.C., in 1969, where they lived until 2004. After retiring Lou and Dawn made their residence in their motor home, summering at Woodbury Resort, Ainsworth, B.C., and wintering at Seal Bay RV Resort in Comox, B.C. Lou always had a congregation at his campfire, which he would have every chance he could, always liking the company and telling of stories. Lou loved to drive, especially the back roads wherever he went, exploring new places. Even though he drove logging truck for a living and worked long hours, his relaxation with the family on the weekend was driving the roads he’d driven all week. So when later in life some of us took up Geocaching, it fit right in with that enjoyment for him ex

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Riemann announces his passing Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the age of 81 years.
Born in Kiel, Germany in 1939, Mike was the oldest of three. He enjoyed many trips seaside with his family growing up. Never one to shy away from new experiences, Mike immigrated to Canada in 1959 for a fresh start and to begin his career as a tradesman. He eventually found his way to interior B.C., which reminded him of his beautiful homeland. Mike’s passion for new hobbies started then, with race car driving and downhill skiing. He met Arletta in 1965; they were married that next year and settled in Cranbrook to raise their two girls. Mike took great pride in his work, hobbies, and family. As a master painter and decorator, he established a successful painting business known for high quality of workmanship, eye for design and professionalism. He played guitar, picking up several different styles over the years

We are writing on behalf of the Cranbrook Homeless Outreach and Prevention Program in support of Cranbrook Homeless Outreach and Prevention Program ,2020
As a program of the Community Connections Society of Southeast BC, we call this location home. We have been co-located there with outstanding Community Hub members for over five years and our program has been in existence for nearly fifteen. Our organization has two Community Hubs which we share with other community partners who work with us providing services to our community. We are very much a part of Cranbrook and have been part of the downtown core Since 1982.
