No let-up on action against illegals in Sabah, says Home Minister

KOTA KINABALU: There will be no compromise on action taken against illegal immigrants in Sabah, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin. The Home Minister said more than 600,000 illegal immigrants from Indonesia and the Philippines have been deported since 1990 and the number includes some 7,000 since Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) took over the state government in September. The illegal immigrant problem is a concern for the people of Sabah, he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 9) after paying a courtesy call to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at his office at the Sabah Administrative Office Complex here.

LAHAD DATU: The rakyat’s cooperation is important in ensuring that security control in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) remains at the optimum level, says Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor. He said the responsibility of maintaining security should not be left entirely up to the security forces. “This matter (rakyat’s cooperation) needs to be emphasised.in terms of combating criminal activities, especially cross-border crime and also controlling other illegal activities, including (entry) of illegal immigrants. “Since the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) was established (on April 1, 2013), security has been maintained, although there have been some cross-border crimes, it is under control,“ he told reporters after visiting the ESSCom area here, today.

MMEA seizes over 100k contraband cigarettes in Sandakan zone

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has seized 103,460 contraband cigarette sticks estimated to be worth RM18,978 untaxed in the Sandakan zone Tuesday (Feb 16). The items were confiscated at an unnumbered premises in Perkampungan Air Batu 3 in Sandakan, according to a statement issued by the Sandakan Maritime Zone public relations unit. Sandakan Maritime Zone director Maritime Captain Zainudin Mohd Zuki said the raid was conducted following a tip-off from the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) intelligence division, that the unnumbered premises in the coastal village was turned into a storage area for contraband cigarette. Upon inspection, the items were found hidden within the wall and under the floor of the premises.
