(WBTV) - One person was injured as firefighters battled flames coming from a commercial building in a three-alarm fire in east Charlotte Friday evening. The fire happened at a multi-story commercial building on East Independence Boulevard at Pierson Drive. Officials say smoke and flames were showing on the second floor, though the fire started on the third floor. Mecklenburg EMS says one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

(WBTV) - Healthcare workers and those 65 and older will now be able to make COVID-19 vaccination appointments in Mecklenburg County. Last week Mecklenburg County Public Health announced that it will be opening additional appointments for the first three weeks of February for Groups 1 and 2 based on anticipated vaccine supply. “We are planning on making about 1,500 appointments each week, with the hopes that if vaccines become more available we can open up more appointments,” Mecklenburg County Medical Director Dr. Meg Sullivan said.

It happened Saturday shortly before 12:30 a.m.  Police responded to the 4800 block of East Independence Boulevard after reports of a crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. When they arrived, police found a 2006 Honda Civic with damage. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
