Police: Street race led to Shelby man s death
Investigators say two men were racing each other when 21-year-old Marquis Davonte Miller was killed.
Police say Tyler Deandre Solom Spikes and Shamarr Travione Wimbush engaged in a street race in the eastbound lanes of East Dixon Boulevard near South Post Road in Shelby.
During the alleged race, Wimbush lost control of the Honda he was driving, struck Spikes’ Dodge and ran off the side of the road.
The Honda flipped several times and landed on its roof. Miller, who was a passenger in Wimbush’s car, died at the scene of the crash.

Big Lots in Shelby will be moving.
Walt Scharer, the planning and services director with the city of Shelby, said the discount chain announced last year that they would be moving locations to the shopping center the houses Hobby Lobby further down East Dixon Boulevard than its current location. They have been moving really slow, he said.
The store, located at 1645 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, is one of several storefronts in the Shelby Plaza Shopping Center owned by Waterstone Southeast Portfolio LLC, according to Cleveland County mapping system.
For more than a decade Big Lots has called that storefront home.
Man killed in Wednesday night crash in Shelby
The wreck happened around 11:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes just past South Post Road.
According to Shelby Police, Tyler Spikes was driving in the left lane when Shamarr Travione Wimbush approached in the right lane at a high rate of speed.
Wimbush allegedly lost control of the Honda he was driving and struck Spikes Dodge.
Spikes vehicle went off the right side of the road and landed on its roof.
The car Wimbush was driving flipped several times and went off the left side of the road.
Marquis Davonte Miller, 21, of Shelby, was a passenger in Wimbush’s vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
