TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Dr. Ed Dominguez an infectious disease specialist, joined East Texas Now to answer your questions about COVID-19.
Dr. Ed said that data collected by the Center for Disease Control(CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) will determine if a booster shot for the COVID-19 vaccine will be necessary. As for now, it is too soon to tell.
The CDC lifted the mask mandate for vaccinated people Thursday and Dr. Ed said heâs comfortable with the guidelines put forth by the CDC because the recommendations are based on science.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A Longview native joined East Texas Now on Tuesday to discuss a project that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Greenwood Race Massacre that occurred in Tulsa.
Stevie âDr. Viewâ Johnson spoke with Kayla Lyons Tuesday about his background, growing up in Longview where his mother still lives, to getting his doctorate degree in higher education administration from University of Oklahoma, to writing the curriculum to accompany this hip-hop project. He is also the executive producer of the project.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Gloria Washington, the executive director of the Texas African American Museum joined East Texas Now sharing information about the museum’s fundraiser, the Miss Juneteenth Pageant and Gala.
Dr. Laramie Jackson, the chairman of this event, came up with the idea to celebrate and commemorate the day slaves were declared free in the US. (Source: TAAM)
Contestants’ categories begin with Mini Miss ages 6-11 but there is no maximum age limit for competitors. Jackson said right now the greatest number of contestants are in the 30 and above category.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Jessica Richardson, the director of Next Step Community Solutions, joined East Texas Now to tell us about her organization and the fundraiser happening this Friday in Tyler.
Richardson shared that one in five students in the East Texas area suffer from mental illness and only 20 percent receive the help they need.
The Next Step program addresses barriers keeping kids from asking for help by replacing the âmessage of sad, shock, and trauma with hope, health, and strength.â
