TEXAS, USA On Friday, more than 5,000 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Texas. This high-case count follows after Thursday recorded than 6,000 confirmed cases. The last time we reached that many confirmed cases in a month was early March.
With the virus spreading, doctors are pushing for people to get the vaccine but in rural communities, it s a struggle. I ve had issues with even persuading my own patients to get the vaccine, despite giving them medical and scientific information, Dr. Jose Tovar-Camargo of Palestine Regional Medical Center said.

East Texas Community Clinic, Trinity Valley Community College and UT Health Athens have partnered for a drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination clinic from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 7, in the front parking lot of the TVCC campus in Athens.

The Moderna vaccine will be administered and the second dose clinic is scheduled for June 4.
Dr. Douglas Curran said this is the key to ending the pandemic.
âWe are winning right now, but that can turn around at any time,â Curran said. âIf you are not taking the vaccine, we may be back in the same dilemma we had a year ago and I donât want that to happen.â
