Bringing a bouquet of romantic songs to Waipawa on Valentine s Day will be singers from Singing School New Zealand who will be in concert at the Centralines Summer Series in Nelly Jull Park, Sunday February 14. Our singers have a great repertoire of songs to entertain the audience and many truly romantic numbers for this special concert, says Singing School NZ chairman and local musical director Helen Walker.

Last week, EIT welcomed their first offshore international students since March 2020. The cohort of 16 Filipino students was allowed to enter New Zealand after being granted a âcritical purposeâ exception. The students who are qualified nurses in the Philippines are now completing their seven-week Registered Nurse Competence Training Scheme (also known as CAP) for Overseas Registered Nurses. Once graduated, and registered in New Zealand, these nurses will play a significant role in supporting the New Zealand health system.
These were the first offshore EIT students allowed to enter the country.
Among the newcomers are Gines Cabahug and Marnie Castrence. Both are thrilled to start their training. Gines has been working in the Philippines as an emergency department nurse for fours year, before taking up a role in the medical surgical-paediatric ward. Brian Horwell, formerly from the United Kingdom and a Gisborne resident for the past decade, has been in the fitness industry for about 20 years.Â
He first studied in his home country and found when he moved here it worked out better to retrain and enrolled at EIT TairÄwhiti.Â

âMovement is a primal function. For example, if you look at kids squatting â they do it perfectly, but we introduce chairs, and they lose that ability. I love to reteach that.â Â
