The Eastern Palm University, Ogboko in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, owned by the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has announced the suspension of the current academic session and all academic activities of the institution which begins this Friday, April 30, 2021.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Turla Badejo, disclosed this at a press conference in Owerri on Wednesday.
He said that the suspension of academic activities of the institution was a result of the ongoing impasse between the proprietor of the institution and founder of Rochas Foundation, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and the Imo State government.
A panel set up by then Governor Emeka Ihedioha had recommended that the University be taken over by the state government.
The present administration of Hope Uzodimma, in accepting the recommendations of the panel, renamed it Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University.
Okorocha had said that the university was established as a public private partnership (PPP) between the foundation and the state government.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Tola Badejo, who disclosed this in a press briefing in Owerri on Wednesday, said that students have been ordered to vacate the premises from Friday 30, April, pending the resolution of the present impasse between Rochas Foundation and Imo State Government.

The Imo State government through one of its social media influencers, Ezeafurukwe Paul Ihunanya has issued a document itemizing Imo’s property allegedly looted by former governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
The press release which went viral on various social media platforms on Tuesday, said that the EFCC will not have any reason not to arrest and prosecute the former governor.
It listed among other alleged loots N59.6billion taken from local government system by Okorocha, the Eastern Palm University built with Imo money but personalised by him, N40billion siphoned through the unexecuted 27 general hospitals, the old IBC premises converted to Rochas College of Africa, Westbrook hotels built by Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu with Imo money, the ReachFM radio owned by Uche Nwosu.

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on the Federal Government to revisit its approach against secessionist agitators in the country.
DAILY POST reports that this is coming in the face of the Federal Government’s recent pronouncement that agitators would not succeed in intimidating President Muhammadu Buhari.
The government has also reacted angrily to the asylum granted Biafra agitators by the United Kingdom.
But the Ohanaeze leadership has now urged the government to soft-pedal on its approach, promising to assist the Federal Government to bring all Biafra agitators to a roundtable discussion and negotiations.
