The newspaper vendors are accused of circulating newspapers that promote the activities of IPOB.
The Inspector General of Police (IG) Intelligent Response Team (IRT) on Monday arrested five newspaper vendors in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria’s South-east, for allegedly promoting activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Abutu Yaro, confirmed the arrest but said the operatives were not from his command.
One of the arrested vendors, Onyebuchi Iwundu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a police station that the IRT operatives arrested them at Rotibi Street, a popular newspaper circulation street, off Douglas Road in the early hours of Monday.
Eid-el-Fitr prayer to hold at National Mosque in Abuja – Management

The Management of the Abuja National Mosque has announced that Eid-ul-Fitr prayer would take place at the mosque on Wednesday or Thursday by 9:00a.m., depending on when the moon is sighted.
Haliru Shuaibu, Spokesman for Abuja National Mosque, in a statement said that the decision was taken after a special meeting with the FCT Minister, Mallam Bello, Council of Imams and stakeholders in the health sector.
He said that it was resolved in the meeting that prayers would be conducted at the premises of the Abuja National Mosque with considerations for the second wave of the coronavirus.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has threatened to drag President Muhammadu Buhari to International Court over the alleged killing of members of the Eastern Security Network, which was established by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to check the incessant crisis between the killer herdsmen and the farmers in the region.
HURIWA accused the Nigerian Army and the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma of planning to crush the ESN from the region to pave way for the Fulani herders.

The directive was contained in a police wireless message shared by The Whistler.
The signal containing the information was dated “101054/05/2021” and with reference number 0900/DTS/DOPS/VOL47/812 and issued by the Commissioner of Police (DOPS), Asaba, Delta State.
It said, “Sequel to the incessant attacks on policemen/ snatching of arms and ammunition by the proscribed IPOB/ESN elements in the eastern states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States and Rivers State, COMPOL DOPS directs you warn personnel that escorts of their principals to the six (6) eastern states is suspended forthwith until security situation improves. Ensure strict compliance please.”
