The Abia State government has said only one student of the Abia State University ABSU is currently with the abductors that attacked a group of students in Okigwe, Imo state on Wednesday.
A statement released this morning by the state Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, said security agents are currently working to ensure the student is rescued.
“On Wednesday, 5th May 2021, a Sienna vehicle conveying passengers, including students of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), was attacked around Okigwe in Imo State along with two other private vehicles by yet to be identified hoodlums.
“According to Information gathered from the institution and one of the students who escaped from the abductors, only one student is still being held by the hoodlums.

The Nigerian Army has said that its troops shot dead a gang of 11 Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network (ESN) operatives during a shootout in Orlu town in Imo State.
The army said on Friday that the ESN gunmen had attempted to attack the compound housing the Orlu Area Command and Police Station in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Following an attempt to overrun the Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo State on Thursday evening, joint security operatives resisted the attack, killing at least eight of the gunmen, suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
This development comes just days after a new commissioner of police, Abutu Yaro was deployed to the southeastern state.
The joint security operatives were also said to have recovered seven vehicles the attackers came in for the operation.
PUNCH reports that the gun duel between the gunmen and the security operatives lasted several hours before the military sent reinforcement from the 34 artillery brigade, Obinze, in Owerri.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our prophet and liberator Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has uncovered plot by Nigeria security agencies to eliminate prominent men and women, politicians and stakeholders in the whole of Biafraland and blame it on IPOB and the Eastern Security Network, ESN.
Every politician in Biafraland must be wary of those officers assigned to them as police or army guarding them. ESN, IPOB has no plan to kill our own in Biafraland because we re going to get Biafra together. It profits us nothing to kill our own despite the treachery by some of them.
The Eastern Security Network known as “Ebubeagu”, Ebonyi State branch, has arrested eight armed robbery suspects in the state.
Mr Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Boarder, Peace and Conflict Resolution, said in Abakaliki on Friday that the suspects were arrested in different locations in the state.
Okoro-Emegha reiterated that the state government was committed to getting rid of crime in all communities.
“The suspects were arrested in their various crime scene and we will continue to hunt them to ensure adequate security of live and property,” he stated.
One of the suspects, Igwe Paulinus, a native of Ikwo local government area of the state, confessed to the crime saying, “I have a gun called One-Npa.
