A PAN-Igbo socio-cultural think tank group, Nzuko Umunna has decried the wreaking of mayhem on the Imo State Police Command Headquarters and Nigeria Custodial Centre both in Owerri, Imo State by gunmen and urged a thorough investigation of the attacks.
With members spread across Nigeria and the Diaspora, the group ”strongly condemned the wanton destruction of public assets by the attackers and reported death of at least one fleeing inmate of the correctional centre.”
In a statement by Mr Ngozi Odumuko, co-ordinator, and Dr Paschal Mbanefo, secretary-general, Nzuko Umunna urged ”the South-East Governors Forum, SEGF, and the State Houses of Assembly to immediately revisit the popular quest for a regional security framework towards safeguarding the citizens against bandits, kidnappers and killer herdsmen. This has become more urgent in light of the heinous killings in Ebonyi State among others
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has said aggrieved politicians sponsored Monday attacks on the Imo State Police Command Headquarters and the Correctional Centre, both in Owerri, the state capital.
Speaking last night on a live TV programme, Uzodimma faulted the allegation that members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) had a hand in the attacks.
The former Inspector General of Police (IG), Mohammed Adamu had claimed that the gunmen, who operated from 1am till 3am on Monday and sang solidarity songs at the Government House Roundabout for about 30 minutes before attacking the facilities, were members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security arm of IPOB.

There was a BBC News story in February that caught me between laughter and bemusement. The news channel reported, in very strong language matched only by the alarming reactions of the persons interviewed, a spate of stabbings across parts of south London that left at least one dead.
It’s sad that anyone should take the law into their own hands, and sadder still that even one innocent person should suffer injury or die from such senseless attacks.
One of the law enforcement officers interviewed, Ade Adelekan, obviously with Nigerian roots, described the south London incidents as “shocking” and went on to say that the “absolutely horrific news would devastate our community.”

The Progressive Circle of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bauchi State chapter, on Thursday revealed that the group was formed to promote politics without bitterness not only among party members but also in the larger political community.
Chairman of the circle, Alhaji Surajo Dada stated this in an interview with DAILY POST, adding that the group was also working towards ensuring the survival and sustainability of democracy in Bauchi State.
To actualise this, Dada informed that the Progressive Circle would identify credible people and encourage the party to give them its tickets to vie for legislative and executive seats in order for the APC to make a difference in the state in the next round of general election in 2023.
