Twitter has removed a post by the president of Nigeria and temporarily locked his account, claiming he broke the site’s “abusive behavior” policy after sending a warning to rebels accused of attacks on police and election offices.
A tweet posted by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday was removed less than one day later over the rule violation, with the platform also suspending his handle for 12 hours, according to Reuters.
“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” Buhari said in the now-deleted tweet.
The Minority Leader of the
House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP, Delta), has said the ongoing Constitution alteration will not entertain ‘debate on unity of Nigeria.’
The lawmaker, who represents Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State, said the House will rather focus on devolution of powers and restructuring.
He stated this at the South-south zonal public hearing on the review of the 1999 constitution in Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday.
There have been increasing agitations by some parts of Nigeria to secede from the country.
In the South-east, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been demanding a referendum on breakaway.

The death of Ahmed Gulak in the hands of unknown gunmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital is causing panic among the political elites on the possible return of the ‘political assassination’ era.
The assassination of Mr Gulak, a close ally of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, is causing de javu of the days of the Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration where political assassination was rampant.
