Best is yet to come for agriculture sector, our farmers and all Guyanese

Best is yet to come for agriculture sector, our farmers and all Guyanese Dear Editor, Over the last five months, the Ministry of Agriculture and its agencies were able to execute a number of developmental initiatives all across the country. During our many community outreaches, drainage and irrigation issues were at the forefront of the challenges faced by residents and farmers alike. With the passage of the 2020 emergency budget, NDIA was able to execute a number of drainage and irrigation works in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10. Rice farmers were able to save thousands of acres of paddy, cash crop farmers were able to have much needed drainage and irrigation for their farms and livestock and poultry farmers were able to have irrigation water for their animals.

In an interview with Guyanese radio talk show host Mark Benschop last evening, Cummings described her newfound fame, since administering Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff with the vaccine on Tuesday at the United Medical Centre in Washington DC, as a “surreal” and “humbling experience.” “It was a Christmas gift. I received a call on Christmas Day and I was asked if I would be okay with taking on that task. And I was like ‘Are you kidding me? Would I be okay?’ I would never pass up such an opportunity. Of course, I was very nervous but I never once second-guessed it,” Cummings stated.
