226 infected in new coronavirus outbreaks at 48 schools, says Michigan’s March 8 school outbreak report

The data was collected on Thursday, March 4.
The biggest new outbreaks involves 24 students and staff at Portage Central High School and 20 students at Portage Central Elementary in Kalamazoo County.
The only new outbreak at a college is five infections at Ferris State University.
New K-12 school outbreaks also were identified in 20 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county:
Antrim County: Central Lake High School, staffer and student.
Bay County: Bay City Cohn Glen High School, staffer and student.
Berrien County: Berrien Springs High School, four students.
East Grand Rapids High School goes all virtual until March 9

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Classes at East Grand Rapids High School will be all virtual through at least Tuesday, March 9 after eight more positive cases were identified among students, according to Principal Craig Weigel.
Weigel adds students should log in through Zoom for all of their classes at the following times:
1st Hour: 7:40 a.m. to 8:37 a.m.
2nd Hour: 8:42 a.m. to 9:39 a.m.
3rd Hour: 9:44 a.m. to 10:51 a.m.
4th Hour: 10:56 a.m. to 11:53 a.m.
5th Hour: 11:58 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.

Over the weekend, East Grand Rapids High School will announce if they will continue in-person learning or switch to virtual learning, after the Kent County Health Department confirmed 16 students have COVID-19.
KCHD Community Wellness Division Director Joann Hoganson says they are trying to determine what contact the kids had that may have led to the outbreak.
Several of the students are on the boys varsity basketball team.
Classes remained in person on Friday.

East Grand Rapids High School Goes Virtual After COVID Outbreak
East Grand Rapids High School students will be learning remotely due to what Kent County Health Department is calling a substantial COVID-19 outbreak.
According to Wood TV 8, the school s first case of COVID-19 was confirmed about a week ago. The school shared on its website that as of Friday afternoon, there were 24 confirmed cases.

At this time, the confirmed cases are students; no staff are reported as having tested positive.
Many, but not all, of students who have tested positive are on the boys varsity basketball team, Wood TV 8 reports. The next four games have been postponed.
