There have been no collections across East Suffolk so far this week. All other councils in the county have now resumed collections in some form. Babergh and Mid Suffolk s collectors restarted on Wednesday, calling at properties near major roads - although their managers were monitoring the situation as the day progressed.

Minke whale to be removed from Lowestoft beach

Published: 1:07 PM January 22, 2021    Updated: 1:53 PM January 22, 2021 Sightseers are being told to stay away after a minke whale was washed up at Lowestoft. - Credit: Denise Bradley A 15ft minke whale that washed up on a beach is due to be removed over the weekend. The mammal was found on Thursday morning (January 21) close to the lifeguard station on South Beach at Lowestoft.  HM Coastguard Lowestoft rescue officers responded at 7.26am on Thursday after a member of the public spotted it. A spokesman said: While we understand that the whale is a great interest to people, and dog walkers, please keep your dogs on a lead around the whale.
