The British Medical Association said the NHS was already overstretched before the pandemic and warned bed capacity and staffing must be increased to control the spread of the virus in hospitals. Analysis of NHS England data shows that, between August 1 and March 21, 274 people were thought to have been infected with Covid-19 at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, while being treated in hospital for other conditions. The highest number of such transmissions was recorded in December alone, when 77 people were believed to have been infected in hospital.

Big NHS Walk is back in business

Big NHS Walk 2020 We’ve all had a lot of practice at walking over the past year - and it’s time to put the new skills to a good cause. ELHT&Me, the official charity of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, has announced that its first post-pandemic fundraising event, The Big NHS Walk, will take place on July 4 this year. The eight-mile walking challenge will bring NHS staff and the local community together while raising valuable funds for the Trust’s hospitals in Blackburn, Burnley, Pendle, Clitheroe and Accrington. “The Big NHS Walk is a chance for staff and our supporters to enjoy a fun day out together after such a challenging year, on the weekend of the NHS’ birthday too!” said Emma Heinicke, ELHT&Me Community Fundraiser. “We’re really looking forward to having the local community come together in aid of our amazing NHS.”
