Lancashire s coronavirus death toll rises by 13
THIRTEEN people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Lancashire’s hospitals, the latest data has shown. Of those 13 deaths, nine were recorded with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which among others operates Chorley General. The trust has now reported a total of 531 deaths. The chief executive of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has paid tribute to a “most treasured” nurse who has died from Covid-19.
Kevin McGee said it was “deep sadness” that he was announcing the death of staff nurse Bridget Palmer, who had worked for the trust since 2012. Ms Palmer, a wife and mother to two children, died on 29 December from Covid-19.
She began her nursing career 40 years ago in Zimbabwe and spent time caring for patients in different parts of the world before joining the NHS.
At least 211 frontline health and care workers have been identified after dying with coronavirus.
Through tributes from loved ones and confirmation through sources such as local NHS trusts and other authorities, the PA news agency has confirmed the names of health and social care workers who have died after contracting Covid-19 since March 11.
This chronological list contains people who were working in roles shortly before their deaths where they were likely to come into contact with patients.
The figure is likely to be lower than the true number of workers who have died, as the names of some victims will not yet be in the public domain.
