Coronavirus vaccination centre opens at East Lothian Community Hospital

Mass coronavirus vaccination centres are being set up across the Lothians and Edinburgh. Queen Margaret University in Musselburgh will have 16 stations and be capable of vaccinating 8,000 people a week. It is due to open next Wednesday (February 10), with other large centres in Edinburgh and West Lothian. Meanwhile, a community hub is being set up in the multi-million-pound East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington. River Tyne exercise stations in Haddington to be removed

CONTROVERSIAL exercise stations beside a picturesque riverside walkway are to be removed. Discussions took place surrounding the future of the green metal bars beside the River Tyne in Haddington at the end of last year. Now, after consultation with Haddington’s community council, East Lothian Council has agreed to remove the exercise stations – with the possibility of installing some in Neilson Park instead. A spokeswoman for the local authority said: “The Tyne walkway exercise stations were erected in early 2016, following discussions with local stakeholders, including Haddington and District Community Council and Friends of the River Tyne group, to provide opportunities for people to improve their physical activity levels, with support from the Ageing Well initiative and local health professionals.

Claim of sex attack on patient at East Lothian Community Hospital

East Lothian Community Hospital, Haddington AN ELDERLY female patient at a community hospital was the victim of a sexual assault while on her ward, it has been claimed. Police are investigating claims that the woman was attacked at East Lothian Community Hospital, Haddington, last month. Health chiefs have refused to comment on the allegations, which are said to have left staff shocked and raised concerns about security on the wards. The alleged incident happened less than a month after an elderly patient at the hospital was able to walk out of its front doors during a torrential rainstorm in just his pyjamas.

Nine-year-old Cash McLeay praised for kind letter to Joyce Henderson in hospital

A LETTER written by a nine-year-old boy to “a patient” in hospital during lockdown has won the heartfelt thanks of the recipient’s son, who found the note in her belongings after her sad death. Cash McLeay, from Prestonpans, and his seven-year-old sister Aria each wrote letters in April addressed to “a patient”, East Lothian Community Hospital, Haddington, after teachers at their school, Preston Tower Primary, talked about writing letters to relatives the children could not visit because of Covid-19. But Cash and Aria’s mum, Sarah Drummond, suggested they write to hospital patients who were not able to have visitors.
