Man denies nighttime intrusion, attempted abduction of toddler in Amherst  Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown. GAZETTE FILE PHOTO Published: 3/16/2021 8:46:43 PM BELCHERTOWN – A 35-year-old man charged with breaking into an Amherst home early Saturday and attempting to abduct a toddler pleaded not guilty to a series of charges in two separate cases in Eastern Hampshire District Court on Monday. Judge Bruce S. Melikian ordered Jimmy Lee Sanchez, whom police described as homeless, held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Monday. Amherst police responded to a Spring Street home Saturday at around 2 a.m. for a reported intruder. The residents of the home said they were awakened by sounds of someone in their house and found a man they didn’t know on the second floor, dressed in dark clothing and holding their 20-month-old child, according to Amherst police.

Homeless Man Accused Of Attempted Kidnap In Amherst

Mar 15, 2021 A man is accused of attempting to abduct a baby in Amherst. Police say Jimmy Lee Sanchez broke into a home on Spring Street overnight Saturday and tried to exit the place with a twenty-month-old child.  Authorities say the parents were able to get the child back, suffering minor injuries in the process.  The parents reportedly told police they did not know the suspect.  Sanchez is expected to be arraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court on Monday on charges including attempted kidnapping.
