Gang members arrested in operation targeting organised crime in Wairoa Newshub 8 hrs ago © Provided by Newshub Four gang members have been arrested in a sting operation targeting organised crime in the Hawke s Bay town of Wairoa. The four men, aged 20, 36, 45 and 54, were arrested by Wairoa Police on Wednesday with the support of the Hawke s Bay Impairment Prevention Team and the Gisborne Dog Section, Senior Sergeant Maui Aben, the officer in charge of Wairoa Police Station, said in a statement.  The gang members were apprehended for outstanding warrants or breaches of their bail conditions.  One man appeared in Gisborne District Court on Wednesday. The remaining three are due to appear this week.

The man, who was set to appear in Gisborne District Court on Monday, was arrested at a Gisborne address this morning through a combination of police investigation and information from the public. Gisborne Police Detective Sergeant Eric Hunter said the investigation was ongoing and welcomed any additional information from the public.

Police in Wairoa temporarily armed after spate of firearms incidents, man shot in the leg

A 19-year-old man was charged with possession of an offensive weapon after shots were fired at a vehicle on Monday. Two other men, aged 19 and 23, were charged with unlawful assembly and assault in relation to another firearms incident. All three men appeared in Gisborne District Court on Tuesday. Meanwhile, police are investigating how a man who arrived at Wairoa Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg was injured. Aberahama said police had been alerted to other instances where firearms were pointed at people or vehicles, but had not been discharged. He acknowledged that firearms incidents could put people on edge, however, police believed the incidents involved “specific groups of people targeting each other”.
