Samyukta Kisan Morcha said on Tuesday it was calling off the farmers’ Republic Day tractor parade “with immediate effect”, a development that comes hours after clashes erupted between protesters and police in several parts of Delhi.
The morcha said peaceful protests would continue.
The morcha said in its official statement: “Samyukta Kisan Morcha has called off the Kisan Republic Day Parade with immediate effect, and has appealed to all participants to immediately return back to their respective protest sites. SKM announced the movement will continue peacefully and further steps will be discussed and decided soon”.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union said it holds the Delhi Police and the local administration responsible for the violence during farmers tractor march because some of the earmarked spots were not barricaded. This, it said, confused the farmers and some of them entered Delhi.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) has blamed the Delhi Police and local administration for the violence that broke out in the national capital during the tractor march taken out by protesting farmers on Tuesday.

Hinting at strict police action against the farmers who were involved in unleashing anarchy in different parts of Delhi on Tuesday (January 26), senior officers of Delhi Police have said that cases will be filed in those districts where violence has taken place.
Lawsuits will be filed on the grounds for obstructing government work, attacking policemen, causing damage to government and private property, violating COVID-19 guidelines and disobeying NOC rules. The police officers said that the culprits will be identified and strict action will be taken against them.

The farmersâ tractor rally scheduled for today took a violent turn as the protesters refused to adhere to the regulations of the police. The mob stormed the Red Fort after breaking through barricades at different border points in Delhi.
Video footages showed protesters attacking the police personnel with lathis and swords in hands. They were also seen ramming their tractors in the buses parked by police in the ITO area of the Capital.
