Image Source: IANS News Chandigarh, Feb 14 : Barring stray clashes purportedly between workers of the ruling Congress and the Opposition, the voting to 117 Punjab urban local bodies, including eight high-stake municipal corporations, ended largely peacefully on Sunday, officials said. Officials said the turnout in the state could be over 70 per cent with the women outnumbering men in voting. The poll percentage stood at 55.91 per cent at 2 p.m.

Singhu: Farmers say no trust in police post clash, self-guard site   Sun, Jan 31 2021 10:23:44 PM New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS): Farmers have amplified their internal security at Singhu border protest site following the fresh incident of violence on Friday. Vigil at checkpoints and interrogation of any unfamiliar face has been increased to prevent any untoward incident which they are anticipating. Naujawan Bharat Sabha President Rupinder Singh said that youth wings of the farmers unions have been told to guard the protest site and not let any suspicious person infiltrate the area. The youth are patrolling the perimeter of the protest site in groups. Mahendar Pal Singh from the Ganna Sangharsh committee, Hoshiarpur, who was leading one such group, told IANS that young farmers are keeping vigil round the clock in shifts.

The langar or community kitchen for the protesters has been shut and there is heavy police presence in the area.

Delhi Police to issue look out circulars against farm leaders named in FIRs

The Delhi Police will issue look out circulars against farmer leaders who have been named in FIRs registered in connection with the violence that broke out during farmers tractor parade in the city on Republic Day, officials said on Thursday. The farmer leaders who have been named in the FIRs will also be asked to surrender their passports, they said. The decisions were taken following a series of meetings chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah since Tuesday when the large scale violence took place in the national capital during the farmers tractor rally, an official from the Home Ministry said.
