February didn’t spare Erie Shore Drive on Friday, with high winds and waves combined with freezing temperatures leaving a treacherous scene in their wake.
The road, which has been hit hard with flooding in recent years, was covered in water in some spots, while many trees and yards were coated in ice.

A gale warning was Sunday issued for western Lake Erie.
Winds were light to moderate across the region and generally from the southeast, said the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.

Forecasts were predicting that winds would pick up Sunday afternoon and switch to the south. Winds were expected to switch to the southwest overnight Sunday. On the lake, sustained speeds could reach 35 kilometres per hour by early Sunday evening, officials said.
Winds were predicted to peak overnight, with sustained speeds between 40 and 60 km/h, and gusts between 65 and 90 km/h. High winds were expected to continue into Monday morning before switching to the west and dropping in the late morning.
