The early May weekend rain that inundated much of South Texas was both blessing and curse, depending on geography.
For farmers in the Corpus Christi area, the 2 inches of rain was a godsend. “This was a million-dollar rain for Nueces and San Patricio counties,” says Josh Mcginty, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension specialist, Corpus Christi.
On the flip side, Clyde Crumley, an independent crop consultant in El Campo, says many of his cotton clients were hard hit.

Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34) released a statement on his address to the House Committee on transportation and infrastructure for South Texas at the Members’ Day Hearing on Thursday, April 15.

Just as reading a good book or a complex diatribe warrants a good discussion, so too does watching a thought-provoking or issue oriented film. At a time when there seems to be a wealth of documentaries to stream, the Mark Twain Library is introducing “Discover Documentaries,” an ongoing program where community members can come together after watching a documentary on their own to discuss the film’s topic, context, significance and more. We’ll start by discussing three documentaries by award-winning director and producer, Cindy Meehl, of Cedar Creek Productions and get to meet the producer and some of her subjects.
