The new year has just started, but local school boards want to know what the next school year should look like.
Two school calendars are up for review.
One would start school on August 30th, with two PD days and the first day of school on September 1st.
The final day of school would be on June 24th.
The second option would have the first day of school a week later of September 8th and the school year would go to the final week of June of 2022 with the last day of school falling on June 30th.
Schools are back in session for in-class learning Monday across northwestern Ontario.
The only exception is schools in Fort Frances as they’ve extended their shutdown for another two weeks due to rising COVID-19 rates in the area.
The Keewatin Patricia District School Board says families are reminded to complete the Ontario School Screening online tool each day before sending their child to school.
You can find that at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening
Any student who feels unwell or fails the screening test is asked to stay at home.
School buses will resume their regular routes and schedules and virtual learning continues for those who don’t feel comfortable returning to the classroom.
Occasional teachers with the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board have ratified a new deal.
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Union North Shield Occasional Teachers Bargaining Unit has reached a three year deal with the public school board.
The agreement expires on August 31st, 2022, and is effective starting of September of 2019.
Dave Rhind is president of the union and says it was very challenging to reach the deal because everything, including the vote by occasional teachers, had to be done virtually.
That included negotiations and voting by the members. ); } return false; }); $( #comments .commentlist .comment-content a ).attr( target , blank );
