SURAT: Department of Bioscience of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) is likely to get a genome sequencing facility especially to test Covid-19 variants. VNSGU officials claimed that they are yet to receive any confirmation, but the university’s department’s name has been declared as a possible centre by the Department of Science and Technology of the central government. “We are yet to receive any official confirmation from the approving agency. We do not have the kit that is required for the sequencing. But we were informed informally that our name is being considered for a genome sequencing laboratory,” said a senior teacher at the department of bioscience.

Bharat Biotech s Covaxin supply falls short of government orders

Synopsis According to the Centre s affidavit, over 1.8 million doses of Covaxin are pending against its order for 20 million doses in March. AFP Bharat Biotech has supplied 28 million doses of Covaxin vaccines to the central government till June 12, against orders of 80 million till May end, according to the affidavit filed by the Centre in the Supreme Court. The Co-WIN dashboard shows that 38.2 million doses of Covaxin have been administered till date. This includes the supplies to the states and the private healthcare providers. According to the Centre s affidavit, over 1.8 million doses of Covaxin are pending against its order for 20 million doses in March. Supply against the government’s May order for a further 50 million doses had not yet begun.
