People returning to Gujarat after attending the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar will have to undergo an RT-PCR test before they are allowed to enter their respective cities and villages, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said today.
The ongoing Kumbh, which has seen lakhs of people from different parts of the country and seers attending the auspicious event in large numbers, has drawn flak from various quarters as the number of COVID-19 cases has zoomed at a rapid pace in the past few weeks. The event has also reported the coronavirus cases in large numbers.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday went into self-isolation after several officers in the Chief Minister s Office tested positive for COVID-19. The CM said as a precautionary measure, he is isolating himself. The development came on a day when Uttar Pradesh recorded its highest-ever single-day spike of 18,021 COVID-19 cases along with 85 deaths.

Bengaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s resident in Gujarat, C.R. Paatil, has courted controversy by distributing the antiviral drug remdesivir for free in Surat, where 5,792 cases of COVID-19 are currently active.
The Union health ministry approved remdesivir for restricted use in June 2020 to help manage severe COVID-19. As such it can be sold only with a prescription, in the form of an injection, and only hospitals and pharmacies are allowed to stock it.
