MUMBAI: Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar has joined voices of those who have criticized the wicket for the third Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, terming it as “poor advertisement for Test cricket.”
Thriving on left-arm spinner Axar Patel and experienced offie Ravichandran Ashwin’s skills, India thrashed England by ten wickets in a match that lasted less than two days and for just 842 deliveries the shortest Test since an England-West Indies contest in 1934-35.

Ahmedabad, Feb 27 : When Jasprit Bumrah started troubling young batsmen with pace generated by his quick arm action and short run-up at his school s cricket academy, a few other pace-bowling trainees approached their coach, mocking and doubting his action. They said he was throwing the ball and doubted his action. I, too, was surprised with the amount of pace he was getting with such a short run-up. I realised he was getting speed from his shoulder, which was strong, recalls Kishore Trivedi, who was running the Royal Cricket Academy (RCA) at Nirman High School.

India s victory over England in Ahmedabad took just 842 balls, making this the shortest completed Test match since 1934. England were bowled out for 112 and 81, while India managed just 145 in their first innings. In the first session of day two Joe Root took five wickets for eight runs with his part-time off-breaks.
While there is little doubt that India were the better side, the quality of the playing surface became the biggest controversy after a match that lasted little more than five sessions. Dramatic but sporadic turn from early in the first session meant that batsmen from both sides were unable to rely on conventional defensive techniques.
