Michael Francisco has lived in Carbondale for 10 years. He grew up in Belize, where his father was a police officer, before moving to Los Angeles (LA) when he was 15. He is currently 54 years old. In Belize, Francisco was not familiar with racial profiling as a law enforcement issue. It was not until he moved to LA that other Black men and women taught him it was best to steer clear of men and women in blue.

Crestview police accepting applications for Citizens Police Academy Special to the Daily News CRESTVIEW After being abruptly interrupted in March 2020 as COVID-19 lockdowns went into effect, a condensed version of the Crestview Citizens Police Academy will return this year, according to police department officials. “Obviously, there are some things we won’t be able to do,” CPD Officer Sam Kimmons said in a news release. “For example, we can’t tour the jail this time.” To allow social distancing during Warriors Hall classroom instruction, the 2021 free academy will be limited to 20 participants, who will meet each Tuesday for six weeks beginning March 9. Graduation will be April 13.

It helped me better understand how the police department works, and the very real issues that departments and individual officers face. After doing training scenarios on use-of-force decisions during the academy, I recognize the challenges officers face when having to make split-second decisions about whether to fire. I empathize with the anxiety police families have that every time an officer leaves the house they might not return.

Minot Police taking applications for next Citizens Police Academy | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 6, 2021 The Minot Police Department is taking applications for its 2021 Citizens Police Academy. The four-session event is scheduled for May 4-May 25, on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. All sessions and events will be conducted in compliance with ND Smart Restart guidelines and local public health recommendations, according to the police department. The purpose of the Citizens Academy is to invite members of the public for a hands-on, behind the scenes, look at how the Minot Police Department serves the community. The Academy’s informal atmosphere encourages participants to ask the “tough questions” and facilitates open discussions on the challenges facing law enforcement today, according to police.
