CPLC reunites lost persons in shelter homes with families
It has collected fingerprints of at least 385 women, 90 men for biometric identification
KARACHI:
The Edhi Foundation is home to scores of homeless persons, many of whom ended up at the welfare organisation s shelter homes in Karachi after they got lost and were separated from loved ones, besides those who had mental illnesses. A large section of these lost persons, separated from their families for years, comprises those hailing from cities other than Karachi.
While they are provided for at the shelter homes, they yearn for their loved ones and identity.
Realising the utility of its Shanakht Programme to put them out of their misery, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has taken the uphill task of tracing their families and reuniting them with their loved ones.
CSOs decry denial of access to residential areas, road blockades around National Stadium

Civil society, human rights, and trade union leaders have condemned the traffic mismanagement in Karachi and cordoning off the residential areas around the National Stadium in the name of security for a Test match to be played next week at the stadium.
In a joint statement issued here on Friday, Karamat Ali, executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research; Habibuddin Junaidi of the Peopleâs Labour Bureau; Nasir Mansoor, general secretary, National Trade Union Federation (NTUF); Farhat Perveen, executive director, NOW Communities; Liaquat Sahi from the Democratic Workers Union of the State Bank of Pakistan; Nazim F. Haji, former chief of Citizens-Police Liaison Committee; and Majyd Aziz, former president of the Employers Federation of Pakistan, demanded restricting security inside the stadium premises.

Death toll from factory blast rises to 10
Authorities suspect explosion was caused by gas leak

The number of casualties caused by the blast, earlier believed to have been a result of a boiler exploding, at an ice factory in New Karachi Industrial Area on Tuesday has risen to 10. As the clearing operation resumed on Wednesday, another body was recovered from under the rubble.
