Does The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition s Track-Focused Character Hurt It On The Road?

There is no denying that the Civic Type R is an excellent hot hatch. It feels good to drive, has loads of power, and one of the best stick shifts out there. But there are compromises to be made for the Limited Edition, all in the name of weight saving. To that end, it loses its infotainment system (and the radio along with it) as well as its air conditioning and some sound deadening material, too. For that, you lose 46 lbs (21 kg) compared to the standard Type R, and also gain fancy BBS wheels and Michelin Cup 2 tires. Together with the weight savings and the faster adaptive dampers, Carwow’s Mat Watson likens the experience of the Limited Edition on track to that of a race car.

1986 Toyota AE86 Has Matching K20C1 Turbo Power for 2021 Civic Type R Drag Race

autoevolution 13 Apr 2021, 11:39 UTC · by We have seen all sorts of exciting encounters via Hoonigan’s “This vs That” series on YouTube, and just because this time we’re dealing with an oldie and a stock 2021 model, it doesn’t mean things won’t get feisty. After all, the vintage model is a 1986 Toyota AE86 that doesn’t feature your average Honda swap when it goes head-to-head with a 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition for some drag racing fun. 41 photos The FK8 iteration of the Civic Type R (part of the tenth-generation series) clearly builds on the company’s heritage of developing great hot hatchbacks that are fun to drive, affordable enough to keep the bank from stamping it with the foreclosure notice, and ready to give hell to just about anyone brave enough to challenge it.

The Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition Is Worth Every Penny Of Its $43,995 MSRP

The outgoing Honda Civic Type R has been the king of front-wheel drive hot hatches from the moment it was launched and last year, it was updated with a facelift and a new Limited Edition variant. Honda is building just 600 examples of the Civic Type R Limited Edition for the U.S. market, each priced at $43,995, a cool $6,500 more than the standard model. For the extra money, shoppers get a Phoenix Yellow paint job with contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, mirrors, and hood vent. The car also comes equipped with lightweight forged BBS wheels wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 tires, has less sound deadening material, and also ditches the cargo cover, rear heated ducts, and rear wiper mechanism. Power continues to come courtesy of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 306 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
