City to hire four new bylaw officers, open downtown safety office

Prince George will be hiring four new bylaw officers this year, as well as opening a new downtown safety office.
This would enable the hiring of the officers, with a view on improving management of social issues in the downtown area.
According to Acting City Manager Walter Babicz, the officers would be deployed seven days a week from 7 to 11 pm, from the forthcoming downtown public safety office.
The office will be located at Second Avenue and George Street, and is planned to open between March and April, with full capacity to begin in May.
Safe, Clean, Inclusive Committee recommendations to be heard by Council

Prince George City Council will be hearing initial recommendations from the Select Committee on a Safe, Clean and Inclusive Community tomorrow (Monday) night.
City Council identified several priorities for the 2020 term including identification of the City’s role in implementing BC’s poverty reduction strategy – Together BC.
Council identified supporting initiatives that provide access to safe housing, food, and community services, as a Social Health and Well-being focus area.
From November 2019 – 20, 22 recommendations regarding the city’s role in implementing the province’s strategy were created.
