Asean calls for dialogue while UN chief condemns Myanmar coup

BANGKOK, Feb 2 (The Nation Thailand/ANN): Asean has called for the return to dialogue and reconciliation in Myanmar after the military staged a coup on Monday (Feb 1) morning. According to China s Xinhua news agency, Myanmar s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint and other senior officials were detained by the military early on Monday (Feb 1). Myanmar military TV then declared a state of emergency in the country for one year after the government leaders were detained. Citizens of Ukraine who already stay in Myanmar are asked to register in the Druh electronic system or report their whereabouts to the Ukrainian embassy, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website. Due to the declaration of a state of emergency in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry recommends that citizens of Ukraine refrain from visiting this country until the stabilization of the internal political and security situation, the statement reads.
