INDEPENDENCE Day should be the most celebrated day in the nation. But with the announcement that the National Education Association, the nationâs largest teacherâs union, plans to promote critical race theory and rewrite American history in schools across the nation, it may never be again.
As voters are becoming more engaged, such concerns are being discussed throughout the commonwealth, including with Virginiaâs Republican gubernatorial candidate, Glenn Youngkin, for whom CRT, law enforcement, and job creation remain key election issues for November.

Glenn Youngkin, the Republican gubernatorial candidate for Virginia, used the word “yellow” to describe Asian people in an interview that recently resurfaced with podcast host Chris Arps back in April.
Vying for Asian votes: Speaking on the “Water Cooler Politics” podcast, Youngkin said, “I so look forward to being governor . . . so that all Virginians Black Virginians, Brown Virginians, White Virginians, yellow Virginians can all achieve their aspirations and their ambitions.”
“Yellow” is a known derogatory term used against Asians.
Yellow Whistle, a campaign that aims to fight anti-Asian hate, noted on its website that the term “yellow” has been “weaponized against Asians as the color of xenophobia.”

Virginia politics is getting uglier. This time it s to do with a fact-checker that called out a deceptive ad from Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe. The fact-check was retracted a few hours later.
On Tuesday morning, PolitiFact Virginia addressed an ad released by McAuliffe, who is once more running for the position he held from 2013-2017. The state constitution prevents governors from running for consecutive terms. The ad claimed that McAuliffe s Republican opponent, Glenn Youngkin, issued comments praising him.
The script of the 39-second ad reads:
Narrator: Glenn Youngkin is relying on an old political playbook: trash your opponent and try to scare the public into liking you.
