Trump last week became the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice.
WASHINGTON: The Democratic-controlled U.S. House of Representatives will deliver an impeachment charge against former President Donald Trump to the Senate on Monday, rejecting Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell s request for a delay.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who displaced McConnell as the chamber s leader after Democrats won two Georgia runoff elections this month, announced the move on the Senate floor but did not say when Trump s second impeachment trial would begin.

To the editor: I find it the height of obscenity that Vice President Mike Pence and Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell were among the first Americans to receive a COVID-19 vaccine when they have all but ignored the pandemic for the last 10 months.
They fiddled while we burned. They allowed millions to fall ill and thousands to die, as those who wore masks and followed the safety guidelines were ridiculed by their supporters. Their arrogance and lack of leadership have caused way too many unnecessary deaths.
And now, they are among the first to be vaccinated. They should have been put at the back of the line.
A Bad Day to Give Putin Good Press
Since November’s vote, the results of which were never ambiguous, almost everyone has played the president’s game.
Donald Trump pretends that he won a race he decisively lost. Elected Republicans, who believe they are still beholden to Trump’s devoted followers, make-believe along with him. And the news media, presumably in opposition to both, maintain an ever-watchful eye on anyone in Trump’s orbit who breaks from the party line. This dance actively preserves the state of suspended animation in which American politics has languished for the last six weeks.
