The US Congress has approved an $A1.17 trillion coronavirus aid package, throwing a lifeline to the nation s pandemic-battered economy after months of inaction, while also keeping the federal government funded for another year.
President Donald Trump is soon expected to sign the package into law.
After days of furious negotiation, both legislative chambers worked deep into Monday night to pass the massive bill, with the House of Representatives first approving it and the Senate following suit several hours later in bipartisan votes.
The virus relief bill includes $A790 payments to most Americans as well as additional payments to the millions of people thrown out of work during the COVID-19 pandemic, just as a larger round of benefits is due to expire on Saturday.

By now I’m sure you’ve read tons and tons on all the insanity put in the COVID relief bill (don’t forget, it was essentially two bills, a COVID relief one and one for funding stuff for Government) instead of simply taking care of the American people. And the next one could be harder
Congress passed three coronavirus stimulus bills in March, and started working on a fourth bill in April. That’s the bill Congress is finally poised to pass this week eight months later.
One reason it took so long to pass the fourth, $900 billion relief package was the 2020 elections, with both Democrats and Republicans making absurd demands to show voters how committed they were to core party principles prior to Election Day. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who now hails the $900 billion bill as a historic success, insisted in the fall that a fourth bill must entail at least $2.2 trillion in spending. Less is more, apparently. Republican Senate Majority

Congress has reached a deal on a $900 billion coronavirus relief package. It does not contain direct aid for state and local governments. For the New York State Association of Counties and county executives in the state, that’s a problem.
Democratic Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer says New York will receive roughly $54 billion.
“There’s more to be done,” Schumer says. “This is not a stimulus; it’s an emergency survival bill, so today is a good day but it’s not the end of the story.”
Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro is president of the New York State County Executives Association, an affiliate of the New York State Association of Counties, or NYSAC.
