Velasco-led House cites legislative achievements

By TED CORDERO, GMA News Published July 24, 2021 12:55pm The House of Representatives (HRep) on Saturday cited several of its legislative accomplishments during the 18th Congress, despite the limitations and challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. In its Legislative Performance Report titled “Paving the Nation’s Path to Recovery,” the chamber led by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said it has been “consistent in pursuing a legislative agenda anchored on saving lives, sustaining economic growth, and spearheading a public policy that is responsive and effective to the health crisis.” The House said its priorities are two-fold: to help all Filipinos impacted by the pandemic, and to revive and rebuild the country’s economy.

UP, Davao City, 3 other entities granted broadcast franchise

(Presidential Communications) + May 20, 2021 PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed laws granting a 25-year broadcast franchise to five entities, including the Davao City Government. Duterte on May 18 inked Republic Acts 11538, 11539, 11541, and 11542 which give Davao City Government, Instant Data Inc., Palawan Broadcasting Corp., and Highland Broadcasting Network Corp., respectively, a congressional franchise for a period of 25 years. RA 11540, also signed on May 18, renews the University of the Philippines’ 25-year franchise to operate radio and television broadcasting stations within the campus premises for educational purposes. The Davao City local government, according to RA 11538, has been granted a franchise to construct, install, operate, and maintain radio broadcasting stations in the city.

NTA- Ilocos Norte sets up tobacco monitoring points

  According to NTA Ilocos Norte Officer-In-Charge Luzviminda U. Padayao, the two tobacco monitoring points are located in Nueva Era town for the Ilocos Norte-Abra boundary and in Badoc town for the  Ilocos Norte-Ilocos Sur boundary.   NTA-Ilocos Norte branch employees join the police in manning the established tobacco monitoring point in Badoc town located near the border of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. (Photo courtesy from the NTA) “This initiative will help identify the accurate tobacco production data of every local government unit (LGU) in Ilocos Norte in which this is the basis for the distribution of an equitable share from the tobacco excise tax fund under Republic Acts 7171 and 8240, Padayao said.
