A conservative, anti-Donald Trump political group aiming to hold Republicans accountable for its ideological shifts under the last president has given most sitting GOP members in the House and Senate an F score for their defense of democracy.
Northeast Indiana Rep. Jim Banks was one of the many who received a failing grade on the organization s metric, while Indiana Sens. Todd Young and Mike Braun received more middling scores.
The Republican Accountability Project, a project of the never-Trump Defending Democracy Together organization formed in 2019, scored Republican members of Congress on their actions during and following the 2020 election, in which Trump purported the election was stolen via massive voter fraud.

House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy and the chamber’s No. 2 Republican, Steve Scalise, were among those who received ‘F’ grades from the “GOP Democracy Report Card” for allegedly backing Trump’s efforts to undermine President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election and for opposing Trump’s impeachment following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) â A conservative anti-Trump group handed out failing grades to 136 Republicans in Congress on Monday as part of an effort to track allegiance to former President Donald Trump and support for democracy in the Senate and House of Representatives.
House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy and the chamberâs No. 2 Republican, Steve Scalise, were among those who received âFâ grades from the âGOP Democracy Report Cardâ for allegedly backing Trumpâs efforts to undermine President Joe Bidenâs victory in the 2020 presidential election and for opposing Trumpâs impeachment following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The Republican Accountability Project, a group led by two former Trump administration officials and leading conservatives, including William Kristol, also handed out failing grades to prominent Trump allies such as Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley.

An anti-Trump conservative group gave two Utahns in Congress failing grades for undermining democracy after they supported former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The Republican Accountability Project released its “Democracy Report Card,” which grades members of Congress on whether they acted to undermine or uphold democracy following the 2020 election and if they played any role in trying to overturn Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 election.
