Judge blocks lawsuit against OSHA over refusal to inspect Pennsylvania Maid-Rite food processing plant during pandemic
US District Judge Malachy Mannion of Scranton, Pennsylvania dismissed a lawsuit March 30 that was brought by three anonymous employees of the Maid-Rite Specialty Foods meatpacking plant in Dunmore. The lawsuit was against the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for failing to adequately inspect the plant where more than half of the workforce contracted COVID-19. Mannion asserted that he lacked the legal authority to order the agency to enforce safety protocols at the facility.
The dismissal of the lawsuit serves as an illustration of how all levels of government have colluded to keep workers on the job during a deadly pandemic without regard to the dangers posed to thier health under conditions where basic safety measures are not enforced. The ruling by the judge provides another green light to employers to disregard workers’ health and safety, k

Some rural communities in New York are falling behind in the race between COVID-19 vaccinations and resurgent coronavirus infections threating to extend the pandemic.
While vaccination rates climbed in many counties anchored by cities and affluent suburbs, the dire effort lagged in some rural counties amid concerns about politically motivated vaccine hesitancy and older New Yorkers struggling to access shots.
Indeed, 10 counties with among the lowest vaccination rates statewide those with less than 30% of people receiving at least one shot fall within more rural areas. The Bronx and Brooklyn in New York City are also in the underperforming group at about 26% and 27%, respectively.

A Cleveland native, Diemer, 41, has never run for office before and currently hosts two podcasts: the Matthew Aaron Diemer Show – a political podcast – and The Decrypt Daily – a daily show about cryptocurrency. The 16th District is drawn to favor Republicans, but includes swaths of Cleveland’s West Side suburbs that could become more favorable to Democrats next year following redistricting this year.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – While passing on a statewide run, Franklin County Recorder Danny O’Connor is the latest Ohioan to announce a run for Congress without knowing which communities he might represent.
O’Connor, a Columbus Democrat, had said he was considering running for U.S. Senate in 2022, and also had been rumored as a possible candidate for a down-ballot state office. He raised his profile statewide and even nationally in 2018, when he lost to now-U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson in a hotly-contested special election for a Columbus-area seat.
