Liz Walters elected chair of Ohio Democratic Party Updated Jan 14, 2021; Facebook Share CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ohio Democrats officially selected Liz Walters, a Summit County councilwoman, to lead the party into the next election, looking to climb out of a rut lasting four election cycles that has rapidly seen their influence dwindle. Walters, the first woman elected chair, emerged as the front-runner this week to replace former Chairman David Pepper, who resigned in December after heading the party since 2015. She had received public endorsements from Sen. Sherrod Brown, labor union figures and young Democratic coalitions. Six candidates originally signed up to succeed Pepper, with the field dwindling over the last month to two: Walters and Columbus-based consultant Antoinette Wilson. Before the vote, Wilson dropped out and called for party unity and everyone to support Walters.
