US Religious leaders ask to reject bid to overturn election results

Dozens of Catholics were among a group of more than 2,000 religious and community leaders who urged Congress to reject any effort to overturn the results of November’s presidential election. “As faithful citizens, we are praying for a peaceful, smooth and dignified transfer of power,” said the statement, released Jan 5 by Vote Common Good, an advocacy organisation whose website says its job is “inspiring, energising and mobilising people of faith to make the common good their voting criteria and to pursue faith, hope and love for a change on Election Day 2020 and prevent the reelection of Donald Trump.” “A delayed and drawn-out objection on Jan 6 would not overturn the will of the American people and change the outcome of the election. It will be nothing but a disservice to the idea of e pluribus unum (out of many, one) and every member of Congress who believes in the sanctity of our democracy should say so.”

The stuff of nightmares, and the rise of masks

Graphic Online BY: Ajoa Yeboah-Afari 30.5k Shares 705 The unbelievably stormy, disgraceful scenes in Ghana’s Parliament captured on live television on Thursday, January 7, during the dissolution of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic and the beginning of the Eighth Parliament, can perhaps best be described as the stuff of nightmares. But it was perhaps not strange that this particular transition, already noted for its controversies, would experience such chaos during its final stages. The process of voting for a Speaker that was supposed to happen with only minor hiccoughs, if any, to pave way for the swearing in of the second term of Pesident-elect Nana Akufo-Addo, embarrassingly degenerated into protracted, serious conflict, over various issues.
