A Texas-led coalition of nine states urged a federal judge on Tuesday to invalidate a programme that grants hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the United States as children the ability to live and work in the country.
During a court hearing in Houston that lasted more than three hours, the states argued that the programme, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), was not created lawfully by former President Barack Obama in 2012.
The case could upend the lives of the nearly 650,000 people, often called “Dreamers”, who are beneficiaries of the programme. It protects them from deportation, allows them to work, grants access to driver’s licenses, and in some cases improves access to financial aid for education.

âLet me just be very clear for all the conspiracy theorists who may be out there watching: The case we are talking about today presents no evidence of widespread voter fraud, and in fact is only evidence that one individual here in Delaware County was able to vote for a deceased person, and he voted that person for Donald Trump,â said Stollsteimer.
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) A virus that started in China and swept around the world to Maine, infecting more than 19,000, killing more than 290 and crippling the economy, was voted the unanimous top story of 2020 by The Associated Press.
The Maine Legislature adjourned, the governor imposed emergency orders and nonessential businesses closed before the economy gradually began reopening. But a wave of infections in the fall created an even more dangerous surge with daily infections climbing to all-time highs near the end of the year.
The selection of the top story that impacted life of every Mainer from Fort Kent to Kittery was made by the AP and its member news organizations in the state.
