Illinois delivered its 20 Electoral College votes to Democratic President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Monday in a meeting that mixed tradition and history.
The electors to the stateâs Electoral College, all Democrats as a result of Bidenâs Nov. 3 victory in the state, convened for less than an hour in the ornate, chandelier-lit Illinois House chamber in Springfield â its 118 seats providing room for the 20 face-masked voters to maintain proper social distance amid the ongoing pandemic.
Biden defeated Republican President Donald Trump by 17 percentage points, 57.54% to 40.55% in a state that has increasingly trended Democratic in national presidential elections.

Arizona s GOP leader appeals to Supreme Court court over Biden win:
Arizona’s Republican Party chairwoman appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court as part of a long-shot effort to nullify Joe Biden’s victory there in the presidential election, according to a filing posted online by a Democratic lawyer.
The filing comes as the high court weighs a similarly improbable bid by Texas to invalidate voters’ selection of Biden in four pivotal states, and reverse President Donald Trump’s election defeat. The court could act at any point in that case.
LANSING In a ceremonial act made dramatic by a “credible threat of violence” that closed the Capitol, 16 Michiganders gathered in the state Senate on Monday to officially cast their Electoral College votes for Democrat President-elect Joe Biden.
The elector signatures on “certificates of ascertainment” ended Republican President Donald Trump’s unprecedented and unsuccessful public pressure campaign to persuade Michigan’s Republican-led Legislature to discard Biden’s 154,188-vote win and swing the election to him.
The vote leaves Trump with just one clear move to fight what he continues to claim was a “rigged” election, and one that is even less likely to succeed than myriad lawsuits he and allies have lost: Imploring Congress to reject electors from contested states.
As the divergence between old dreams and new realities widen, the role of individual and national leadership in governance including policymaking is being redefined by eminent thinkers and social activists trying to build a more equitable, democratic socio-economic order.
