Alabama AG Steve Marshall pulls out of National Attorneys General Association

Yellowhammer News reported the decision on Monday.
Mike Lewis, spokesman for Marshall, confirmed the decision to AL.com but had no further comment. According to Yellowhammer, Marshall pulled out of the organization because he said it has moved too far to the left in its policies.
“I can’t justify spending taxpayer dollars to fund an organization that seems to be going further and further left,” Marshall said. “With the money we will save, I can add a young lawyer to my consumer protection division and yield a far better return on the taxpayer’s investment.”

Republican attorneys general are hitting the Biden administration with a barrage of lawsuits even before the end of its first 100 days, foreshadowing what could be a litigious four years between President Biden and the top state law enforcement officials.
The effort comes after years of Democratic attorneys general consistently taking former President Trump to court, occasionally bringing cases all the way to the Supreme Court.
Indeed, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, who was the California attorney general during Trump s term, celebrated filing his 100th lawsuit against the Trump administration in August.

The Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF), a $19 million nonprofit in the vast political network of billionaire Charles Koch, and its allies argue that the rule infringes on their First Amendment rights and will open donors up to harassment and deter their giving, despite the fact that the information is kept confidential from the public. The case has been consolidated with another challenge to California s law by the Thomas More Law Center, a Christian Right litigation group.

Republican Chris Carr’s break with the group, made in an April 16 resignation letter first obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reflects a continuing divide as some high-ranking Republicans seek to distance themselves from Donald Trump and others try to demonstrate their loyalty to the former president. The association’s fundraising arm, the Rule of Law Defense Fund, paid for a robocall urging attendance at the rally that immediately preceded the violent breaching of the Capitol.
