A Utah lawmaker pursues impeaching Attorney General Sean Reyes.
Sandy Democratic Rep. Andrew Stoddard said his filing was over Reyes s efforts challenging the outcome of the 2020 presidential election and in response to his ties to the Republican Attorneys General Association and their involvement in the domestic terror attack on our Nation’s Capitol.
Meanwhile, Utah s U.S. senators are split on the upcoming Senate trial of former president Donald Trump. However, Sen. Mike Lee and Sen. Mitt Romney are far more united when it comes to trying to curb National Monument designations in Utah.
Plus the latest from the state legislature, including the bill to let Utahns carry a concealed firearm without a permit.
Republicans unite behind Trump
On Tuesday, 45 of the 50 Republicans in the US Senate voted to quash the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. The motion was introduced by Rand Paul of Kentucky, a far-right libertarian, who made the legally false argument that the Senate trial, scheduled to begin February 9, is unconstitutional because Trump is no longer in office.
Paul said the trial would “drag our great country down into the gutter of rancor and vitriol, the likes of which has never been seen in our nation’s history.” He called it “deranged.”

Since the insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, numerous corporations and trade groups have condemned the violence and have taken steps to hold accountable those tied to what will forever be a stain on our democracy.
A large number of corporate PACs are also suspending, pausing, and reviewing contributions to those in Congress who voted against certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. But what about the American Legislative Exchange Council’s(ALEC) funders?
ALEC, an ostensibly nonpartisan pay-to-play operation where legislators and corporate lobbyists meet behind closed doors to adopt model legislation on a broad range of public policy issues, embraced Trump early on, and its leaders and members worked hard to promote his voter fraud lies in order to keep him office.
