Authorities in Pallisa District have closed the main market over non-adherence to the presidential and health guidelines aimed at containing the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
The district Covid-19 taskforce officials told Daily Monitor at the weekend that vendors failed to implement the procedural standards.
Police and army personnel have been deployed to keep vendors away from the facility.
A few vendors who had reported to work on Christmas Day were ordered to return home until the market leadership ensures the Covid-19 standard operating procedures are put in place.

Masaka City residents have resumed wearing face masks without being coerced or reminded by authorities as was the case in the first months when Covid-19 had just hit the country.
A snap survey carried out by Daily Monitor early this week around Masaka City revealed that seven of every 10 people currently put on facemasks, which has not been the case in the last couple of months.
