From 1 February 2021 the majority of prescriptions for supply under the PBS and the RPBS must describe the medicine by active ingredient name to be eligible for subsidy.
Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) National President Associate Professor Chris Freeman said while current pharmacy workflows or processes largely won’t change, pharmacists should continue talking with consumers about their medicines active ingredient names where possible.
“Pharmacists have an important role to play when it comes to explaining to patients why their prescriptions may look different,” he said.
“When these changes come into effect it is critical that pharmacy staff are prepared to have the necessary conversations with patients and continue to provide information about the brand options available to them.

Updates to COVID-19 Directions 1 January 2021, South Australia
Two COVID-19 Directions have been updated in South Australia in response to the recent New South Wales COVID-19 outbreak.
Updates have been made to the Cross Border Travel and Residential Aged Care Directions. These updates provide prohibited entry for those travelling from New South Wales and requirements for Essential Travellers.
It is important that anyone intending to travel from New South Wales reads the following information.

Holiday vigilance to protect older Australians in aged care
The health and safety of older Australians should be a priority this holiday season with families urged to keep in contact with those most in need – but to take appropriate precautions.
While restrictions have eased across Australia, providers and families living across the Northern Beaches and Penrith areas of Sydney must abide by the current visitation guidelines.
Until further notice all staff and visitors at residential facilities must wear a surgical mask.
Additionally, until at least Wednesday 30 December, all residential aged care facilities across the Northern Beaches LGA must exclude visitors, except those performing essential caring functions.
